Some of the most meaningful moments during a family photography session are the ones that are completely unplanned.
The giggles. The curious little hands reaching for cookies. The tiny teacups lifted with both hands. And the proud smile from dad as he watches his girls play.
During this recent family photography session here at the farm in Santa Fe, Texas, we created the sweetest little tea party inside the greenhouse. Surrounded by lush greenery, warm natural light, and the quiet charm of the farm, the girls gathered around a small lace-covered table to share tea, cookies, and laughter with their dad.
As a Santa Fe Texas family photographer, moments like these are exactly what I love to capture most.
The Magic of the Greenhouse at the Farm
The greenhouse here on the farm has quickly become one of my favorite locations for family photography sessions. With sunlight filtering through the windows and plants surrounding the space, it creates a soft, organic environment that feels peaceful and natural.
For families traveling from Santa Fe, Houston, Galveston, and surrounding areas, the farm offers a unique setting that feels both intimate and timeless.
Instead of a traditional studio environment, the greenhouse allows families to slow down and simply enjoy time together.
And that’s when the most beautiful photographs happen.
Letting Kids Be Kids During Family Sessions
One thing parents sometimes worry about when arriving for a photography session is whether their children will sit still long enough for photos.
But the truth is — I don’t expect them to.
Children are meant to move, explore, laugh, and play. Their personalities shine brightest when they’re free to interact naturally with their parents and siblings.
During this tea party session, the girls poured tea, tasted cookies, and giggled with each other while dad joined in on the fun. There were little spills, curious expressions, and plenty of hugs.
Those natural interactions are what create the most meaningful photographs.
As a family photographer serving Santa Fe, Houston, and Galveston County, my goal is always to create an environment where families feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.
Because the best portraits rarely come from perfectly posed moments.
They come from real ones.
Why These Moments Matter
Years from now, these girls may not remember being asked to smile for the camera.
But they will remember sitting at a tiny table having tea with their dad.
They’ll remember the laughter, the cookies, and the way he looked at them with so much pride.
The photographs from sessions like these become more than just pictures.
They become reminders of how it felt to be small, loved, and safe in their dad’s arms.
That’s why I believe the time spent together during these sessions is just as important as the photographs themselves.

Why Seasonal Portraits Matter More Than You Think Family Photography in Santa Fe, Texas Most families think of portraits as a once-a-year thing. Maybe fall.Maybe Christmas cards.Maybe when someone reminds them it’s been “too long.” But childhood doesn’t move in yearly increments. It changes in seasons. And that’s exactly why seasonal portraits matter more than […]
The Evolution of a Houston Children’s Photographer There was a season in my photography journey where imagination led everything. Before The Little Ranch Farm became what it is today… before motherhood sessions, milestone portraits, and legacy albums filled my calendar… there was a creative spark that pushed me to ask one simple question: “What if?” […]
