Why your baby’s safety will always be my number one priority.
As a parent, there is nothing more important than your baby’s safety.
And as a newborn photographer, there is nothing more important to me either.
One of the most common concerns parents have before booking a newborn session is:
“Is newborn photography safe?”
The answer is simple:
Absolutely—when done properly.
Every decision I make during a newborn session is centered around your baby’s comfort, safety, and well-being.
While beautiful portraits are important, they will never be more important than your child.
When you look through a newborn gallery, you see beautiful images.
You see tiny fingers.
Tiny toes.
Sweet sleepy expressions.
Beautiful props and setups.
What you don’t always see is everything happening behind the scenes to ensure your baby remains safe throughout the entire process.
Many newborn images require a parent, assistant, or spotter to be just inches away from baby at all times.
Sometimes those helping hands are later removed during editing.
But they were there during the photograph.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
During a newborn session, your baby is never left unattended.
Never.
Whether your baby is:
There is always someone close by.
Sometimes that person is me.
Sometimes it’s a parent.
Sometimes it’s an assistant.
But there is always someone actively monitoring and supporting your baby.
One of my favorite examples is a beautiful newborn portrait featuring a baby in a vintage carriage surrounded by flowers.
The final image looks effortless and peaceful.
What viewers don’t see is that mom was standing directly beside the carriage the entire time, making sure it remained secure and stable.
Afterward, her hand was carefully edited out of the final image.
The result is a beautiful portrait—but the safety precautions never disappear simply because they aren’t visible in the finished photograph.
Behind every image is thoughtful preparation and constant attention to your baby’s well-being.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that babies are wonderfully unique.
Some babies are deeply sleepy.
Some are alert and curious.
Some love being wrapped.
Some prefer more freedom to stretch and move.
Rather than forcing babies into specific poses or setups, I pay attention to what each baby is comfortable with.
If baby doesn’t like something, we simply move on.
There is always another pose.
There is always another setup.
There is never a reason to push a baby beyond their comfort level.
My newborn sessions are designed around your baby—not the other way around.
If baby needs to eat, we stop.
If baby needs cuddles, we stop.
If baby needs a diaper change, we stop.
If baby needs extra soothing, we stop.
There is no rush.
There is no pressure.
There is no stopwatch running.
Your baby’s needs always come first.
This is something I want every parent to hear.
Sometimes babies have off days.
Sometimes they’re uncomfortable.
Sometimes they’re extra fussy.
Sometimes they simply decide today isn’t the day.
And that’s okay.
I will never force a newborn session because it’s on the calendar.
If your baby is truly struggling and we feel another day would result in a better experience, we can absolutely reschedule at no additional cost.
At the end of the day, it isn’t baby’s fault.
We chose the date.
Baby didn’t.
Their comfort and well-being will always take priority.
As photographers, we have a responsibility to create beautiful images safely.
A photograph should never come at the expense of a baby’s comfort or safety.
If a setup isn’t safe, we don’t do it.
If a pose isn’t comfortable, we move on.
If baby isn’t happy, we adjust.
It’s really that simple.
One of my goals during every newborn session is helping parents feel completely comfortable.
You don’t need to worry.
You don’t need to hover.
You don’t need to wonder if your baby is safe.
Because protecting your little one is already my highest priority.
From the moment you walk into the studio until the moment you leave, every decision is made with your baby’s best interest in mind.
Years from now, you’ll treasure the beautiful photographs from your newborn session.
But long before those images are delivered, my focus remains exactly where it should be.
On your baby.
Their comfort.
Their safety.
Their experience.
Because while beautiful photographs matter, your baby matters more.
Always.
