Don’t worry—we always have a plan.
One of the most common questions I receive after a maternity session is booked is:
“What happens if it rains?”
If you’ve been dreaming of beautiful outdoor maternity photos, it’s completely understandable to be concerned about the weather.
The good news?
Rain doesn’t have to ruin your maternity session.
In fact, some of my favorite galleries have come after weather forced us to adjust our plans.
If you’ve lived in Texas for any amount of time, you already know the forecast can change quickly.
A beautiful sunny day can suddenly turn cloudy.
A forecast showing rain all week can turn into a gorgeous sunset.
Because weather is unpredictable, I typically keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session and communicate with you if adjustments need to be made.
While I love creating beautiful outdoor portraits, your safety and comfort are always my top priority.
If weather conditions become unsafe due to:
We will make adjustments rather than force a session in uncomfortable or unsafe conditions.
Sometimes Mother Nature simply doesn’t cooperate.
When that happens, we can move your session to another available date.
My goal is never to rush through a session or make you settle for less than what you envisioned.
I’d much rather photograph your maternity session under beautiful conditions than have you worrying about the weather the entire time.
One advantage of booking your maternity session with me is having access to both my private studio and outdoor locations.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we often have the flexibility to move all or part of your session indoors.
This means you don’t necessarily lose your session date simply because rain decides to make an appearance.
Studio portraits provide a timeless, elegant look while allowing us to stay comfortable regardless of what the weather is doing outside.
Texas weather is funny.
I’ve seen afternoons filled with rain followed by beautiful golden sunsets.
When timing allows, we may choose to begin indoors and move outdoors later if conditions improve.
This often creates a gallery filled with beautiful variety while giving us flexibility throughout the session.
Here’s a little photographer secret:
Not every cloudy day is a bad photography day.
Soft cloud cover often creates beautiful, flattering light.
Many clients assume their session needs bright sunshine, but some of the most beautiful outdoor portraits happen under overcast skies.
As photographers, we often get excited when we see soft clouds because they can create gorgeous lighting conditions.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that weather worries almost always work themselves out.
Whether we:
There is always a solution.
My job is to handle the logistics so you can focus on enjoying this special season.
At the end of the day, what matters most isn’t whether the forecast was perfect.
What matters is preserving this chapter of your life before it becomes a memory.
The anticipation.
The excitement.
The love you already have for your baby.
Those things shine through regardless of the weather.
If you’re worried about rain, don’t be.
When you book your maternity session, we’ll have a plan in place and the flexibility to adjust if needed.
Whether we’re creating timeless portraits in the studio, taking advantage of beautiful outdoor scenery, or combining both experiences, my goal is always to provide a stress-free experience and a gallery you’ll treasure for years to come.
Because while we can’t control the weather…
We can absolutely create beautiful memories.
