Newborn FAQ

When should I book my newborn session?
Newborn sessions are ideally photographed within the first 1–3 weeks after birth, when babies are still especially sleepy and naturally curled.

However, I understand that every birth story is different. If your baby is older than three weeks — whether due to medical reasons, recovery, or simply timing — please don’t hesitate to reach out. 

Beautiful portraits can be created at many stages of those first months. If you’ve been told “it’s too late,” I encourage you to reach out. There is still time to document this season.

What if my baby arrives early or late?
That’s completely normal. Your newborn session date remains flexible to accommodate your baby’s arrival.
Once your baby arrives, simply send me a message and we'll finalize your session date based on how everyone is doing.

What can I expect during my newborn session?
Every newborn settles into a session differently, so I never expect two sessions to look exactly alike. Sessions are calm, relaxed, and never rushed. We take breaks whenever your baby needs to eat, be changed, or simply wants extra cuddles. My goal is for everyone to leave feeling like they enjoyed the experience just as much as the portraits themselves.

Can my spouse and children be included?
Absolutely. Some of my favorite images from every newborn session are the ones that include the people who already love your baby most. Parent and sibling portraits are always encouraged and included.
 
What if my baby won't sleep?
Don't worry at all. While sleepy newborn portraits are beautiful, they're not the only beautiful portraits we create. Some babies sleep the entire session, while others are curious and wide awake. Either way, we'll create timeless images you'll love. I simply work with your baby's personality instead of expecting every newborn to do the exact same thing.

Do I need to bring anything?
All you'll typically need is baby, diapers, wipes, bottles if bottle-feeding, and a pacifier if your little one uses one. Wraps, blankets, props, and everything needed for your session are already waiting here.

Do you provide wraps and props?
Yes. Every wrap, blanket, headband, bonnet, and prop has been thoughtfully chosen to create timeless newborn portraits that won't feel dated years from now. My style leans toward soft, natural tones that keep the focus exactly where it belongs—on your beautiful baby.

My baby has acne, flaky skin, or scratches. Will you edit those?
Absolutely. It's completely normal for newborns to have flaky skin, baby acne, tiny scratches, or little red marks during those first weeks. Those temporary blemishes are carefully retouched while keeping your baby's skin looking natural and true to life.

What if my toddler doesn't cooperate?
Toddlers are wonderfully unpredictable, and I never expect perfection. We'll usually begin with sibling and family portraits while little ones are still excited, then let them take a break while we focus on baby. Years of photographing growing families have taught me that a little patience goes a long way, and some of the sweetest sibling portraits happen in the most unexpected moments.

Absolutely . Choosing a newborn photographer is an important decision, and I want you to feel completely comfortable before reserving your session. I'm always happy to answer questions, talk through the collections, and help you decide which experience is the best fit for your growing family.
